info

This is not a difficult concerto, it really was written for kids, but is very effective whenever its played. Here are a breakdown of its movements.

Allegro
The jolly main theme of the 1st movement is played out through bassoon, that is quickly accompanied by the winds. The piano answers as single music notes in both hands an octave apart.

Andante
The 2nd movement is far more subdued and affectionate, nearly as if Shostakovich was trying to write a Chopin-style Nocturne. The atmosphere is soft with a bit of sadness.

Allegro
The ending is a vibrant dance using exotic modal scales.

Piano Concerto No. 2 in F major, Op. 102, by Dmitri Shostakovich was composed in 1957 for his son who played the composition during his commencement at the Moscow Conservatory. It is a cheerful composition, far more so than most of Shostakovich’s works.

how to practice

Have a look at the basic chord blueprint associated with the song which will in fact help you to ultimately excel at performing the bass and melody sections. Yes, it’s not like Shostakovich to have so much repetition, but you will notice patterns if you look closely. Much of the motives played in the piano repeat very often. The chords repeat themselves so much that after you really get a hang of the routine, it’ll be far simpler to educate yourself about the entire orchestral part.

It’s not hard to learn the melodic lines of the piano since both hands usually play in unison.
