Stanley Gill, was an attorney and administrative law judge who performed in a country-music group part time and motivated Gill to continue a music career. In the encouragement of his dad, Gill discovered to perform several instruments, such as the guitar and banjo, before he began high college at Oklahoma City’s North-West Classen High-School He first used a group called Bluegrass Revues in the late-1970s The other members were: Billy Perry on the banjo, Bobby Clark on the mandolin and Mike Perry on the bass guitar.

During highschool, he performed with Mountain Smoke, a bluegrass group that after opened for Pure Prairie League and Kiss After he graduated, he played in numerous bluegrass groups, including Ricky Skaggs ‘ Boone Creek and Byron Berline and Sundance; afterwards, he became an associate of Rodney Crowell ‘s street group, The Cherry Bombs
