Marc Cohn

Marc Cohn was created on July 5, 1959 in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Beachwood High-School in Beachwood, Ohio , a Cleveland suburb. When he was two years-old his mom died, and his dad died ten years afterwards. [ date=january 2009 ] Cohn discovered to perform guitar and began writing tunes when he was in junior-high school, enjoying and singing having a nearby group called Doanbrook Resort. While attending Oberlin University , he taught himself to perform the pianoforte. He used in University of California, Los Angeles and started to perform in La-region coffeehouses.

He subsequently moved to New York State and embarked on demoing tunes for assorted writers, including Jimmy Webb , Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.

Operating initially as a backup musician in recording periods, he created a safe professional ground after gathering the Highest Court, a 1-4-piece cover band, who performed at Caroline Kennedy ‘s nuptials in 1986. In 1987, Cohn performed two tunes (;One Stone Too Several; andPumping Iron;) on the Phil Ramone -made concept album of Andrew Lloyd Webber ‘s Starlight Communicate, Audio and Tunes from Starlight Express.

In 1989, Cohn was a backing pianist for vocalist Tracy Chapman on her behalf second record The occupation caused a contract with Atlantic Records in the early nineties after label executives noticed a demo disc featuring Cohn on piano and singing. Working initially with Chapman’s producer, David Kershenbaum and collaborating afterwards with engineer Ben Wisch and producer John Leventhal , Cohn introduced a self titled solo album Marc Cohn in 1991, which was a tremendous hit, as a result of the immense success of Strolling In Memphis, that attained number 1 3 on the pop chart and was nominated for Track of the Entire year and Greatest Pop Vocal. Marc Cohn realized gold-degree revenues by February 1992 and was certified platinum in 1996. Another basis wasCorrect Companion;, a well-known lovers tune which even became the soundtrack into a live relationship proposal on-us television’s Johnny Carson Tonight Show Cohn won the 1991 Grammy for Best New Artist award, beating out equally Boyz II Men and Seal.
